Dear Foundation Supporters,

“Invest in the human soul. Who knows, it might be a diamond in the rough.” ----Mary McLeod Bethune

Welcome to the Bethune Scholarship Foundation Inc. website. This site provides an online presence for the foundation. Thank you for your commitment for the growth of the Bethune Scholarship Foundation, Inc. to continue to aid students pursuing a college education. A college education remains the key to achieving career goals and dreams. The Bethune Scholarship Foundation Inc.'s mission is to provide college scholarships annually to high school graduates in Halifax County, Virginia.

The Foundation continues to grow and strengthen. In 2003, the Foundation instated its $500,000 scholarship endowment goal by launching the Gift Campaign 2003 – 2013. We have reached fifty-seven present of the goal. To reach a $500,000 endowment amount, a Gift Campaign 2023 – 2032 needs the donation from 500 alumni/supporters in the amount of $100 annually for 10 years to accelerate the growth of the scholarship fund. A $500,000 endowment will ensure that annual scholarships will be available indefinitely for deserving Halifax County High School seniors. With this in mind, your support is requested in the amount of a tax-deductible contribution of $1,000 over the 10 years or sooner if you wish.

Your generosity over 45 years has resulted in $114,000 being contributed to 159 deserving students like myself. Thank you. Your support of our Scholarship Foundation Endowment growth will enable continued educational support of Halifax County college bound seniors. Again, I ask you to use today to prepare for tomorrow through your support of Gift Campaign 2023 – 2032.

Thank you and if you need information regarding the Bethune Scholarship Foundation, we have someone who can help. Please schedule an appointment with our leadership though our  booking calendar.

Sincerely,

  Coolidge Hamlett, Jr.

OUR HISTORY

During a visit to his former high school - after integration - Emmett O. Green, class of `56, discovered a need to preserve the schools history of education in Halifax County. He had a vision of forming an alumni association. Emmett called other graduates from Halifax County living in the Washington metropolitan area and shared his concerns regarding the forming of an alumni association. On Saturday, July 28, 1973, the first official meeting of the Mary M. Bethune Alumni and Associates was held in Washington, D.C. Those present at the first meeting were: Emmett and Pam Green, Agnes and Von Poindexter, Mary and Richard Lee, Jean Coleman Contee, Faye Brewer Taylor, Phyllis Pannell Wilkerson, Rose Crawley Adams, Geraldine Sadler Washington, J.P. Logan and John Lee. Emmett Green was elected president.
