Bethune Scholarship Awarded

June 17th, 2021

One of the goals of the Mary M. Bethune Alumni and Associates of the former Mary M. Bethune High School of Halifax County is to give scholarships to graduates of the Halifax County High School. To achieve this goal, the Mary M. Bethune Alumni and Associates formed the Bethune Scholarship Foundation Incorporated in 1978. Since that time, 152 scholarships have been awarded to graduates of Halifax County High School. This year the Bethune Scholarship Foundation Inc. awards a $1,000 scholarship to Nydia Dunkley who will be attending Virginia State University majoring in mathematics. Celebrating the scholarship award are (from left) the Rev. Stedman Davis, pastor of Republican Grove Baptist Church; Coolidge Hamlett Jr., president of Bethune Scholarship Foundation Inc.
